There are some gemstones in game. They are used to raise a items' level and add attributes or options on a item. You can gain the gemstones by hunting monsters, completing quests or combination with runes.
To use a gemstones, follow the steps given below (for example : to add a option on the item "Prime Vitholf Helmet" by using the gem "Garnet") :
The items and gemstones must be in character's inventory as shown below.  
Click the gemstones. Drag and drop gem onto item to slot it. 
Then a option is added on the item. Effect on item after slotting as shown below.
